GUNN AUTO GROUP LAUNCHES SOLDIERS' ANGELS “TREATS FOR TROOPS”
Making Sure Service Members Get to Feel Like A Kid in A Candy Shop
San Antonio, TX. (Oct 20, 2020) – With numbers of Trick or Treaters projected to be at an all-time low due to COVID-19, Gunn Auto Group and their philanthropic arm, Gunn Gives, has teamed up with San Antonio-based nonprofit Soldiers' Angels for a candy drive benefitting the organization’s “Treats for Troops” outreach.
Each of the five San Antonio area Gunn Auto stores and their three collision centers will serve as collection points for the community to drop off store-bought candy that will be shipped to our brave men and women overseas deployed in combat locations around the world.
Donation Guidelines
Individually wrapped candy is preferred, but unopened small bags of loose candy such as candy corn, jellybeans, etc. are accepted. While the thought is appreciated, due to health department regulations, homemade or handmade candy are not allowed. Baked goods, whether store bought or homemade are also a no-no. YES! We collect chocolate and the troops really appreciate them.
Soldiers' Angels Treats for Troops is an annual campaign dedicated to collecting and shipping excess Halloween candy to our servicemen and women. Traditionally, Halloween is one of the organization’s busiest collection times and Amy Palmer, President and CEO of Soldiers' Angels is concerned that they may not be able to meet the need. “CDC and health experts are encouraging people to stay inside and do single family parties,” Palmer said. “Without door-to-door trick or treating this could greatly reduce the amount of candy we receive. We not only take bags of packaged candy; we take leftover individually wrapped Halloween candy. Many of our donors are parents trying to get excess Trick or Treat candy out of the house!”
Candy may be dropped off at all five Gunn Auto San Antonio dealerships: Nissan, Chevrolet, Buick/GMC, Honda and Acura and their three collision centers as well as Gunn Nissan of Denton. Donors may come into the showrooms to drop off their donations or may opt for a contact-free option by utilizing each locations Service Center drive thru.
Gunn has pledged 100 care packages (roughly 3,000 pounds) of candy for troops currently serving in combat zones. “Top Gunns” volunteers, across all of our stores and collision centers, will collect, sort and package the donations and deliver them to Soldiers' Angels for shipping.
Gunn’s philanthropic arm Gunn Gives has donated millions of dollars to area charities. In their pursuit to do more than simply write a check the “Top Gunns” volunteer corps was created so they could provide physical, in-person support to important causes.
Treats for Troops drop off is available from 7am-7pm, Monday-Saturday, now thru Friday, November 6, 2020.
“Our founder “Pop” Gunn served with the 13th Armored Division during World War II as a Lt. Colonel under General Patton and he was a Bronze Star recipient. Curtis C. Gunn, Jr., a Navy Lieutenant served as a Navigator and Operations Officer on the USS Boyd,” said Sean Gunn, CEO, Gunn Automotive Group. “Currently, Gunn Auto Group collectively employs more than 50 former servicemen and women and reservists. We truly appreciate our military and their families for the many sacrifices they make so we can live in a free country.”
